Sometimes Authors DO Write Back!

Nampa, Idaho - November 18, 2025 - I realize that it’s unlikely I’ll hear back from an author, but I write to them anyway. However, sometimes I get lucky—as I did with Elizabeth Greenwood.

Here’s what transpired:

Dear Ms. Greenwood,

I just finished reading your captivating book, Love Lockdown: Dating, Sex, and Marriage in America’s Prisons. You’re receiving this letter of gratitude through your website—rather than an Amazon review (five stars, by the way)—because I found your book at my local library. I want you to know that I feel so much smarter and more informed about a facet of our society that so many of us disregard or relegate to titillating soundbites on shows like A&E’s Lock Up.

By showcasing the various couples throughout the book, you put real faces and emotions into stories that all of us can relate to. Of course, most of us aren’t having to navigate the conundrum that is the prison system of the United States to see our loved ones, but we can all relate to what you wrote on page 357: “But all relationships, in their very essence, are acts of delusion.”

Thank you for all the work you put into this wonderful book, Ms. Greenwood, and thank you for opening my eyes (and my heart) to those courageous wives who are willing to sacrifice so much for the chance of finding true love.

Sincerely,

Chuck Trunks

- - - -

Chuck, you have made my day, week, month, year!!! Thank you so much for reaching out to let me know your experience of reading the book. It really means the world to me. Thanks again!
xo liz

Spot Me: A Gym Memoir is available on Amazon! Only excellent reviews so far!

 Nampa, Idaho - October 29, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter 5:

“After finding out that Phillip had only been training for a month, giving him a measly eight months to prepare for a 26.2-mile marathon, I didn’t have the heart to tell him that if he completes it, he’ll earn a finisher’s medal along with two extra parting gifts: at least one lifelong injury and a burning hatred for running. Over the following four weeks—prior to going silent—I shared my first marathon experience with Phillip, even going as far as offering training tips I had learned from veteran coaches in my former running clubs. To his credit, he never hit me up for a donation to support his efforts for the Leukemia Society.”

Back Cover:

If you’re struggling with having to pay monthly fees to a gym or wondering why you even have a gym membership in the first place—you’re not alone. More than five years ago, I reached my breaking point and added the commercial gym experience to my ever-growing list of things I used to do. Now it’s right up there with voting, air travel, concerts, movie theaters, and most restaurants.

If the corporatization of gyms didn’t turn them into soul-crushing places like Crunch Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, and Planet Fitness, then the phone-laden, headphone-wearing members did. Besides their homes and work, Americans used to have a third space to go to—like gyms, coffee shops, parks, and recreation centers—to find community and forge friendships.

Spot Me: A Gym Memoir is my eighth book, and like the seven that came before, it’s comprised of a handful of true stories that serve as gym-related testimonials, each supporting my expressed opinions about the country we live in.

Book No. 8 is coming this Fall..."Spot Me: A Gym Memoir" by Chuck Trunks. Soon to be on Amazon!

Nampa, Idaho - September 15, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter Four, Axiom:

“Isn’t it crazy,” I began, “that a typical vehicle has around 10,000 moving parts and can reliably perform a myriad of functions in any kind of weather, from adaptive cruise control to fuel injection to personalized climate control, and yet this sauna, whose only function is to heat a pathetically small room using six non-moving parts, is constantly on the fritz! How is that even possible?”

The gray towel raised his eyebrows and, without looking at me, exhaled, “Yep,” as if my clever comparison wasn’t totally on par with something George Castanza might say on Seinfeld.

There's nothing better than receiving appreciation for your work...

Nampa, Idaho  - September 5, 2025 - Receiving confirmation that your book made a positive impact on a reader’s life has to be the most gratifying feeling for any writer. That’s why I’ll take the time to write to an author who’s changed the way I’ve thought about a particular subject. However, I’m always disappointed when I don’t hear back from them. As a writer, I dream of receiving correspondence like this. If I did, you can count on hearing back from me.

"It's Not Your Fault: But It Could Be" by Chuck Trunks--a book that will make you think about your choices going forward.

Nampa, Idaho  - August 26, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter Four:

"I'd say it's more of a guilty-until-proven-innocent society in which contracts are written as one-size-fits-all behemoths that assume the worst of people regardless of their personal histories. Sadly, none of this surprises me. I rarely witness acts of honor, integrity, and ownership anymore; instead, I see rampant knee-jerk blaming that's devoid of anything resembling personal accountability, empathy, or remorse. To me, it's a litigious, intolerant, and combative society that hides behind ridiculously huge and incomprehensible contracts, computer screens, and tinted car windows. I used to live among people who tempered their convictions by seeking to understand the opinions of others. Now I'm surrounded by people whose tolerance is measured by the amount of shame they can live with." ðŸ’“

Back Cover:

If you've seen what I've seen inside and outside mainstream society, then you will love this book because you will have found a like-minded brother in me. If what I'm revealing in It's Not Your Fault: But It Could Be is eye-opening to you, then you will also love this book because it demonstrates that there's more to work than the daily grind, more to happiness than material wealth, and more to relationships than pet-centric lives.

There's no doubt we live in a duplicitous society in which we are instructed to follow our dreams and to be our authentic selves. But at the same time, this confusing culture offers a narrow definition of success and only one way to get there. This book is based on real-life experiences that will remind you of the freedoms you still have, so you, too, can avoid the false promises of the American Dream.

New Book (Number 8) Arriving This FALL from TRUNKS ART: "Spot Me: A Gym Memoir." It's my best book, yet!

Nampa, Idaho - August 4, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter Three - Summer Daze:

"As I said goodbye to Alex, thanking him profusely for everything he'd done for me, I looked for my moody boss, but he had already disappeared into the greenhouse. I turned my gaze to Alexis, who made no effort to cover herself, opting instead to remain standing in heels while holding on to the pickets of the wrought iron fence that separated us both physically and financially. The brunette looked 10 years older than she was with the face and locks of a partied-out Kennedy—complete with a ravaged complexion, overly tanned skin, and an indestructible hairline. Her eyeshadow matched the magenta highlights on her bathing suit, which appeared at least a size too small for her curvaceous frame. I looked at her hands and noticed they were as tan as the rest of her and that she wasn't wearing a wedding band. And when she smiled, her pale blue eyes smiled, too, making me feel as powerless as a fly trapped in a spider's web."

What could be better than BEING HAPPY with all that's going on in 2025? TRUNKS ART has the perfect book for inspirational summer reading!

Nampa, Idaho - July 12, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter Two:

"I also stated that happiness is what ensues when one is able to control all of their emotions. And since we don't have a choice when it comes to feeling an emotion, control in this case is dependent on the amount of time one chooses to commit to an emotion. If the commitment is not excessive, the emotion one feels in a given moment would be considered "under control" and would either contribute to that person's overall feeling of happiness or not diminish it. Conversely, if one's commitment toward an emotion is deemed excessive, or "out of control," then that person's overall feeling of happiness would be diminished. And to me, this holds true for any emotion between euphoria and devastation." ðŸ’“

Back Cover:

Who do I think I am? What gives me the right? I'm no Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, or Viktor Frankl, yet I've written a book about finding happiness by controlling emotions, investing in the present moment, and having a meaningful purpose. The nerve!

More than 100 billion human beings have lived and died on this planet, and I'm guessing that every one of them wanted to be happy. I'm also guessing that very few of them wrote books about being happy. Being Happy: The Pursuit of You is an open and honest journey. By sharing real events from my life, I hope to entertain you and make you think while revealing how I came to discover and harness the happiness and fulfillment that had been hiding inside me all these years.

I offer my humble story in the hope that it'll help you find yours, too. 💓

"Being Happy: The Pursuit of You" is on Amazon now.

A New Book from Trunks Art--"Spot Me: A Gym Memoir"-- Coming This Fall!

Nampa, Idaho - July 1, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter Two:

"After two sets of bicep curls, I stood up from the weight bench, turned the lights off, and made my way to the foot of the stairs in total darkness. Halfway up, my heart sank. I heard something I wasn't expecting from the kitchen—especially in the early afternoon on a weekday—the sound of heavy boots on linoleum. Standing motionless on the stairs, I considered a full-on retreat back down to the basement but was quickly overruled by the fire-breathing metabolism of a starving 14-year-old boy. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for the inevitable. Since he didn't see me working in the yard when he drove up, I would have to pay a steep price—usually in the form of a lecture I knew all too well. However, the sight of me emerging from the basement would no doubt provoke his most inflammatory taunts."

"Must Love Dogs: A Tragedy of Sorts" continues to be a topic of spirited discussion. After you read it, let's chat! TRUNKS ART appreciates your support!

Nampa, Idaho  - June 10, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter 8: "By most accounts, Martha's beloved dog was typical in almost every way. Max was curious about everything; he was always following Martha around, checking on my whereabouts from time to time, and making frequent use of the two doggie doors on either side of the cozy house. And, like most dogs, Max liked being wherever Martha and I were in the house—especially in the living room, where he would situate himself between us or on top of Martha. That's when I first discovered that Max's penis hangs out from its sheath." ðŸ’–

Must Love Dogs: A Tragedy of Sorts, is on Amazon Books now.

Back Cover:

Even if you've been going through life half asleep for the last ten years, I'm still confident that you've noticed an undeniable surge in the number of people with dogs. Have you ever wondered why that is?
After conducting over ten years of field research for this book, amassing 30,000 bike-miles and 10,000 foot-miles while doing so, and interviewing hundreds of dog owners who trusted me with their personal stories, I developed a theory that attempts to answer the question, "How did America become so obsessed with dogs?"

The sometimes funny, sometimes frightening, and always entertaining observational and experiential stories in the first two parts of the book stem from actual events and support the explanations behind a theory that takes into account the external and internal pressures that make it remarkably easy for dog owners to exclaim, "Must Love Dogs!"

TRUNKS ART'S 8th Book Is Due Out This Year! (2025)

Nampa, Idaho  - May 15, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter 1:

But did I really have a chance? Of course, I didn't. Having spent a large portion of my life in and out of gyms, I've accepted that I'm no match for female gym rats between the ages of 25 and 65 whose insufferable bravado says, "I've got one, too, and it's bigger than yours!" They're self-appointed boss ladies hellbent on patrolling the free weights, group classes, and cardio machines, sniffing for the slightest male infraction like a shark honing in on a drop of blood.

An Excerpt from the chapter, "Sofia," in TRUNKS ART'S book: Heart Appreciation: Stories of Gratitude! It's such a sweet, beautiful story!

Columbia, South Carolina  - April 25, 2025 - An excerpt from the "Sofia" chapter: While she began to stand up, I saw that she was soaking wet. I remember muttering to myself, "Oh my god!" when mud oozed out of her helmet and down her face. Adding to the already chaotic scene were five or so runners from the crowd extending their hands and calling to her. When she lifted her head, I saw her searching for me amidst the pandemonium. Her face was wet with mud, but there were no tears, and from what I could tell, she looked unhurt. ðŸ’–

Back Cover:

I found out early in life that good people bring you happiness while not-so-good people teach you lessons, but this book focuses on the great ones who give you lasting memories.

In this collection of personal and lyrical short stories, you will learn how a nine-year-old girl, a pro football legend, a Fortune 500 CEO, a feisty old man, a country boy, a Puerto Rican logistics manager, a new hire from Santa Barbara, a college buddy, and a high school gym teacher taught me about dignity, compassion, loyalty, charisma, humility, selflessness, and so much more.

These non-fiction reflections combine elements of humor, poetry, essay, and memoir and serve as reminders that we are truly a result of what we learn from others. I extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to everyone mentioned in this book as well as to those who will be honored in subsequent compilations.  ðŸ’–💖💖

"Be Still My Heart: A Code for Love" by Chuck Trunks is getting great reviews on Amazon!

Columbia, South Carolina  - March 26, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter 6:

"As crazy as this sounds, I did a photo shoot for a BDSM group in the Box Canyon Nature Preserve about 15 miles past Hagerman. It's an offshoot of the Snake River and has a few nice waterfalls. Have you ever hiked there before? I pried, fully knowing I had just pulled the pin from an invisible grenade. Would it explode? Or would it provide me with a chance to tell her a terrific, PG-rated story about some of the nicest people I've ever photographed?"

Back Cover:

How many times do we have to hear, "You're not trying hard enough," "You're going about it the wrong way," or "You need to step outside your comfort zone?" At first, I bristled at such tiresome platitudes, yet there I was, rolling up my sleeves, putting myself out there, and believing that life gives you exactly what you put into it.

But does it? Has life really given you exactly what you deserve? When so many of us can't find romantic love, meaningful work, a true friend, a permanent home, or enough money to live on, I can't help but think that something other than our own poor choices and self-defeating behaviors is working behind the scenes to keep us from acquiring happiness, success, and fulfillment. To me, it just doesn't add up.

Be Still My Heart: A Code for Love will not only reveal what's hidden behind the curtain, but you'll come to understand that your lot in life isn't all your fault. ðŸ’–💖💖

TRUNKS ART has SEVEN books on Amazon! I hope you find one that interests you!

Columbia, South Carolina - March 10, 2025 - "There is a kind of sadness that comes from knowing too much, from seeing the world as it truly is. It is the sadness of understanding that life is not a grand adventure but a series of small, insignificant moments, that love is not a fairy tale but a fragile, fleeting emotion, and that happiness is not a permanent state but a rare, fleeting glimpse of something we can never hold onto. And in that understanding, there is a profound loneliness, a sense of being cut off from the world, from other people, from oneself."

"Silver Linings in a Mad World" is Trunks Art's Seventh Book. New Release on Amazon Now!

Columbia, South Carolina - February 18, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter 3:

"I knew something was up. Neither Ross nor Jason had come back to the monastery, and it was nearing eight o'clock on a weeknight. Thinking they were most likely at a sports bar—an activity I heard them talking about in the backyard from time to time—I figured I'd have enough time to make and pack a lunch for the following day's 30-mile bike ride to Durham, then retreat to my room before they returned."

Back Cover:

Six true stories comprise Silver Linings in a Mad World. I specifically chose these confounding and disappointing personal events because they reflect my feelings about today's public space, where an elite ruling class forces the working slaves of America to exchange their humanity for basic needs.

Silver Linings in a Mad World is on Amazon Books now.

But is it really fair to place all of the blame on our corrupt government, monopolizing corporations, and billionaires with more wealth than the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt? While some of us will exercise free will to rise above the dystopian gloom, others appear unaffected by it. What's their story? Are they merely robots programmed by mainstream indoctrination? Or are they simply ignorant, lost within a new America whose constitution begins with "I the Person?" That may be true for the majority, but I discovered a different reason, a silver lining that affords a fortunate few happiness, purpose, and love despite living in a mad world. ðŸ’–

"Physics from the Heart: A Quantum Story." One of Six Books by Chuck Trunks (Trunks Art)

Columbia, South Carolina  - January 6, 2025 - An excerpt from Chapter 3: "It looks like these subatomic varmints have ol' Bill scratchin' his head!" I drawled in my best country boy accent. "It's nuts, isn't it? These individually shot electrons were either stopped by the barrier, went through the first slit, or went through the second slit like the BBs did, yet here we have the signature of a wave interference pattern instead of seeing two bands on the detector screen. Unbelieveable."

Back Cover:

What if you were lucky enough to come across something that gave you the power to rise above what we're all experiencing in these trying times? And what if you wanted to share it with the rest of the world but realized that your life-changing revelation was understandably complicated and couldn't be offered to the masses through a simple meme, sound bite, or video clip?

Physics from the Heart: A Quantum Story is on Amazon Books now.

Physics from the Heart: A Quantum Story solves this dilemma by packaging its sentient message within a narrative that reads less like a textbook and more like a lighthearted screenplay. Not only will readers find themselves painlessly becoming closet experts on one of the most famous discoveries in all of science, but they'll also be able to connect it to the world around them, including consciousness.

Like any good movie, Physics from the Heart is relatable, entertaining, unpredictable, and even comes with a surprise ending that explains why this book will leave you feeling both empowered and happy. ðŸ’–
