TRUNKS ART is proud to present the latest in the PHYSICS SERIES: AURORA BOREALIS!

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho - August 28, 2020 - "Aurora Borealis" (#11/12) - I've been lucky enough to see the Aurora Borealis (or Northern Lights) a couple of times from an airplane but when I learned how the phenomenon takes place, I couldn't help but think about an equally astonishing facet of my social interaction - especially in today's "don't need don't trust" cultural mentality.

Okay.  Here we go.  Deep breath.  The earth's core contains molten iron which produces a magnetic field around our planet called the magnetosphere.  This is eerily similar to my cold, black heart (at times) which shrouds me in a cloud of detachment and defensiveness.  Hmm.  Interesting.  The magnetosphere shields the earth from damaging, fast moving and highly charged ions that have escaped the sun's gravitational pull.  So weird.  My cloak of protection works the same way.  COVID-19 updates, non-mask wearing freedom fighters, political zealots, inequality protesters, commercial advertisements and the like just bounce right off of me.  But some of these subatomic solar particles DO make it through the earth's magnetosphere at the north and south poles where the magnetic field is weakest to collide with oxygen and nitrogen atoms high in earth's atmosphere producing a colorful, celestial light show that both awes AND inspires.

Unbelievable!  This is what happens in my heart (that iced over piece of coal) when an act of unexpected kindness or selflessness slips by my cone of resignation.  I feel my heart soften, swell and burst with love in that one precious moment.  It's beautiful but fleeting - just like the Aurora Borealis.
