"How Far the Stars Are" is the next astrophysics composition by TRUNKS ART!

Boise, Idaho - December 28, 2019 - "How Far the Stars Are" (#2/12) - On a clear night, our naked eye can see Sirius, the brightest star at almost 9 light years away, and Deneb, the furthest star at 1,500 light years, and even Andromeda, our closest galaxy neighbor at a whopping 2.5 million light years.  And, with telescopes like the Hubble, distances are calculated into the billions of light years!

So, just how do they know how far the stars are?  Stellar Parallax (Friedrich Bessel, 1838) is a method that uses plain old trigonometry but is limited to only 400 light years.  Standard Candles (Henrietta Leavitt, 1908) extends that distance to the far reaches of the universe using Cephied Variables (super bright twinkling stars).  But you know what's more mind blowing than these inconceivable distances?  The stars we do see are no longer there and are mere glimpses into the cosmic past.

Yep.  Mind blown.

New Physics Art Series by TRUNKS ART: "Why is the sky dark at night?"

Boise, Idaho - December 13, 2019 - "Why is the sky dark at night?" (#1/12) - What's interesting about this seemingly pedestrian question is that it took nearly 400 years and the minds of Albert Einstein and Edwin Hubble to unravel and answer.  With an infinite number of stars in the universe we should conceivably see the entire night sky filled and lit up by starlight - but we don't.  Instead, we see only the "observable universe" which includes stars whose starlight has had time to reach us.  So if you're thinking that we'll see more and more stars in the night sky as time passes - guess again.  Thanks to a universe that is expanding at an ever increasing rate, the starlight from those distant stars will NEVER reach us.  In fact, many of the stars, including whole galaxies will fade from view leaving only the stars in our own Milky Way galaxy to inspire and perplex the far future generations of hopeful and inquisitive stargazers.

Boise, Idaho - October 8, 2019 - When you walk into the Flying M in downtown Boise, you're immediately overwhelmed by the "cool factor" but before making a beeline to the busy coffee counter, make a sharp right turn into the little gift shop and be greeted by the big smile of Jessica.  Not only does she stock the place with one of a kind gifts and novelties, she's a fan of my Boise-themed greeting cards!

TRUNKS ART tips his cap to Nampa, Idaho!

Nampa, Idaho - September 11, 2019 - "Nampa" - I like eating; and enjoying a really good cup of coffee simply goes without saying.  A 20 mile jaunt along westbound Interstate 84 from Boise will take you to restaurant-loaded Nampa, a neighboring city with a population of just over 100,000 and the distinction of being the best run city in America (WalletHub.com, July 2019)!  Wow!

Boise, Idaho - June 14, 2019 - I love projects like this - using my style of art as a fun marketing graphic.  And as far as real estate companies go, TOK Commercial is a terrific business that I can respect and relate to here in Southeast Boise.

"Eagle Island" is the latest from TRUNKS ART! Springtime is imminent!

Eagle, Idaho - March 19, 2019 - "Eagle Island" (#5/12) - It's hard to believe but just 42 years ago Eagle Island was still known as Eagle Island PRISON FARM, a Department of Corrections cattle grazing and farming operation that opened in 1930 and was worked on by state prisoners.  The 546 acres were sold to the Idaho Department of Lands in 1977 and dedicated as an Idaho State Park in 1983.  Today, only 26 acres have been developed.  The iconic water slide is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Boise, Idaho - February 6, 2019 - I'm honored to have my Boise themed greeting cards in the historic and iconic Record Exchange, Idaho's largest independent music store since 1977.  If you haven't been there in a while, you'll be blown away by the selection of cool stuff in the gift/coffee shop - lotta Valentine stuff in there, too.

TRUNKS ART completes another composition for the IDAHO PARKS series!

Hagerman, Idaho - February 1, 2019 - "Malad Gorge" (#4/12) - Malad Gorge is just one of the many natural wonders within Idaho's Thousand Springs State Park and gets its name from early French-Canadians who named the area Rivere aux Malades ('river of the sick') because of the many illnesses suffered while fur trapping.  Pictured in my artwork is the gem of Malad Gorge - a sixty foot waterfall aptly named, the Devil's Washbowl.

TRUNKS ART inspired to create a SOCKEYE BREWERY Poster!

Boise, Idaho - January 21, 2019 - I wouldn't call myself a beer connoisseur by any stretch but handcrafted brews are abundant here in Boise.  Heading the pack is Sockeye, an award winning production brewery (named after the iconic salmon) with two warm and friendly local pubs serving delicious food along with their beer varieties.  Personally, my favorite is Dagger Falls IPA (named after a Class V rapid located on the Middle Fork Salmon River in Central Idaho).  As they say at the Sockeye Brewery, "Drink like a fish!"

Here it is! The CVG Series in ONE graphic from TRUNKS ART!

Newbury Park, CA - January 17, 2019 - "The CVG Series" - Well, here it is: The CVG Series in one graphic.  Each one of these compositions took me about a month to complete.  As far as commissioned work goes, I loved the amount of creative license I was given to complete the project.  The Conejo Valley Guide, situated in Southern California, is a lot like our beloved Boise Weekly.  Instead of reporting on cool things to do in the Treasure Valley, it provides up-to-the-minute announcements about fun things to do (and know) in Ventura County.  "Keep it up, Conejo Joe!"

TRUNKS ART gets lucky with LUCKY PEAK!

Boise, Idaho - January 15, 2019 - "Lucky Peak" (#3/12) - How lucky am I to live within 10 riverside bike miles of Lucky Peak State Park, located off of Highway 21 just minutes from downtown Boise? Completed after 6 years of work headed by the Army Corp of Engineers in 1955, the associated reservoir has a drain valve (so to speak) which when opened in the springtime, sends 1,500 to 2,500 cubic feet (per second) of snowmelt water upwards of 150 feet into the air creating what is referred to as a rooster tail.  This effect is pretty awesome to witness as the water leaves the "drain opening" at about 60 miles and hour.  By shooting the discharge upwards, it reduces river erosion and sends all that crystal clear water into the Boise River for everyone to enjoy.
